中国の空間情報産業は、測量と地図製作に関わる空間情報データや技術において、この10年で国際的にみても飛躍的に成長しました。しかし、中国の空間情報は軍部が機密扱いにする等、海外ではその実態をほとんど知られていませんでした。本書はそれらが初めて開示された書籍といえます。
本書では、中国の空間情報産業の取り組みを過去から将来に渡って検証しており、もともとは北京の社会科学アカデミックプレスによって2015年1月にリリースされた報告書を、East View社が正式に承認を受けて加筆、英訳したものです。その包括的な分析は、国家の地図作成機関職員や空間情報産業の企業幹部等、国や民間分野を主導する組織、専門家により、内部の視点で提供しています。
巨費が投じられている中国の空間情報産業は、情報技術、鉱業、交通、国勢調査等、経済や安全保障の継続的な発展のためには不可欠で、本書の中でも空間情報サービスの需要喚起や業界推進のために市場開放に向けた政策が期待されています。
